Right now I'm working on my 'Vintage Glamour' range, which includes a block-of-the-month quilt, a cushion collection, a wall-hanging and some new handbags. The pieces coordinate so you can make-over your entire bedroom with this look. I'm very busy at the moment as it has be ready for the November Australian Quilt Market, which is a trade-only show, and after that it will be in the shops by December ready for 2007.
What craft trends have caught your eye lately?
Beads! I will definitely be adding beads to my work to give it a little sparkle!
How do you juggle family and business commitments?
It's all about finding a balance, which isn't automatic to begin with, because to be successful in your first years of business, you have to work very hard and doing it from home can be a problem as it's always there!
I found that separating my work area from the living area is important, as I can close the door and forget about it. I also draw lines between work and family time, I work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday as if it's a normal job and then I finish up, cook dinner and spend the rest of the evening with my family.
Whose work do you admire?
Anni Downs from Hatched and Patched. She's so creative and has great ideas!
One invention you wish was yours? Why?
Clover bias tape makers - such a clever invention! I love them because I prefer curves to geometrical shapes and bias allow such freedom and movement with regard to designing so I use them in just about every quilt I make.
Apart from sewing, what else do you like to do?
I love renovating and decorating the house with my husband and spending time with the kids - taking them to picnics, movies and fun places they've never been before.
Are there any new fashions or tools you think will change or dominate the craft world in the near future?
I think there'll be a blending of beading and patchwork fabrics to create glamorous handbags and cushions, and maybe even some beading on quilts.
